Golf is the main form of recreation in Desert Mountain. Home to six superb championship courses, there is a reason that Desert Mountain is praised as a golfer's paradise. Each course is a signature Jack Nicklaus course and numerous PGA golf tournaments have been held on their lawns. Each course has multiple pitching, chipping, putting and bunker areas as well as four separate practice ranges with target greens.
There are six different courses here in Desert Mountain: Renegade, Cochise, Geronimo, Apache, Chiricahua and Outlaw.
Renegade is known as the most versatile course in the world. The course was designed so that players may choose the line up and the level of difficulty that they want to play.
Cochise is home to four signature holes that are four of the finest "risk/reward" par-fives to be found anywhere. Cochise is also known for its sheer beauty and its lush island green shared in the middle of its course.
Geronimo is known for its unique rock formations and natural washes. The exceptional course winds through dramatic boulders, deep washes, ravines, and gorgeous desert landscape.
Apache is a course that appeals to sensible golfers. This course is known for its sheer length and severe desert transitions. The Apache course is home to many deceptive putting slopes as well as the design strategy that "allows for many options from the tee as well as in the approaches to the green, with room to play run-up shots or fly it in high."
Chiricahua is the highest course with the biggest elevation changes, some ranging from 2,800 feet to 3,600 feet. The course’s overwhelming beauty often distracts golfers who undermine just how challenging this course truly is.
Outlaw is particularly known as a strategic course—one that requires great precision and concentration. Essentially, when Nicklaus designed Outlaw, he wanted to take what nature offered him and enhanced it. And that he did, with native washes and spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, Four Peaks, and Pinnacle Peak.
It has been said that without the culinary arts life would not be bearable. Desert Mountain provides five restaurants for members to enjoy. Fine Italian fare as well as a prime steak house and desert casual Tex-Mex restaurant are only a partial list of the dining options.
